Bug Hotel

Stuart Slade, our Forest School Leader, and a number of pupils from all the year groups at St Philips made a Bug Hotel down at the allotments.  They stacked pallets on top of each other and filled the cavities with leaf litter/green waste from the allotment, bamboo canes, logs with holes drilled in them, reed, hay, flower pots and clay roof tiles to create holes and dark places for the creatures to live in.  After some basic instructions from Stuart, the pupils showed fantastic team working skills and creativity, producing an amazing structure with very little input. Their enthusiasm for the task was really good to see.

The bug hotel not only looks good but also provides a really good habitat for the bugs and mini beasts found in and around the allotment, some of which may benefit the plants too!  Good work team!
