As part of our ‘Out and About’ topic, Class 1 and 2 have been exploring the local area for ways to keep healthy. We visited Arundel allotments and were met by Bob Tanner and his wife,Sian. They showed the children a variety of vegetables and fruit that were grown on the allotment and even allowed two children to pull up a large marrow! Bob gave us ideas of vegetable seeds we could plant at this time of year in our own school allotment and the parent of a Year 1 child, kindly donated the seeds for us to plant. Watch this space for evidence of our crops growing, in readiness, for picking in the Spring Term.
We aso walked down to Pizza Express and had a talk from the chef about healthy toppings we could add to special treats like Pizza. All the children were able to make their own full sized pizza to take home.
In class, we made healthy, fruit kebabs as part of out Design and Technology curriculum and had great fun washing the fruit, chopping it, putting it onto sticks and finally eating the kebabs.
This week, as part of our Catholic ethos of thanking God for all he provides, the children, in classes 1 and 2, all brought into school a Harvest donation. The idea being, that we share our good fortune and plentiful lifestyles with the local community. Harvest boxes were made up and taken to a local retirement centre as an offering. The children also presented a Harvest Celebration to the rest of the school, singing Harvest songs, reading Thanksgiving prayers and showing Harvest pictures.
